     The Department of Textile Technology was established in the year 1945 at Alagappa College of Technology under University of Madras with the purpose of providing world-class education in the field of Textile Technology. The Department has industrial and academic collaboration on specialized areas of study and this has positioned the institution as the harbinger of progressive changes and innovations.

     The Department is continuously engaged in modernizing the laboratories and carrying out research projects from the funds provided by various funding agencies like DST, UGC, AICTE, ICMR and CSIR and the industry. For developing infrastructure facilities, the department is funded by DST under FIST level1 and level2 amounting Rs.55 lakhs, UGC through SAP DRSI and DRSII for Rs.165 lakhs and MHRD CEMA for Rs.60 lakhs
