The Department of Textile Technology was established in the year 1944, with a purport of providing world class education in the field of Textiles. The institute has industrial collaboration for its specialized areas of study and this has positioned the institution as the harbinger for progressive changes and innovations.

The Textile Institute UK accredited the B.Tech degree programme of this department in 1997. All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE) has also accredited both B.Tech and M.Tech programmes and awarded the highest Grade "A" with effect from July 1998.Right from the time when it was first opened the Department of Textile Technology, Anna University is playing a pioneering role in laying the foundation of Indian Textile Industry and shaping its future.
