Institute for Energy Studies (IES), Anna University focuses on training both under graduate and post graduate students in the area of Conventional and Renewable Energy. IES is also involved in identifying innovative solutions to today's energy challenges through fundamental & applied research and industrial consultancy works. The institute carries out the state of the art research across the areas of solar thermal, solar PV, biomass and green buildings. The frontline research focuses on energy conversion and efficient utilization, energy efficiency, solar drying, sustainable renewable technologies, smart grid development, energy storage and management, energy efficient buildings, alternate fuels, desalination technologies etc. IES often undertakes several R&D projects in association with Government organizations, academic partners, International universities and industries to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficient solutions into practical applications.
To match with the energy growth that is directly linked to the development and booming of a nation across the globe, IES serves as an energy hub for framing policies and promoting clean energy technologies for the state with greater understanding of complex environmental issues by connecting resources and expertise in India and in the broader energy community across the globe. IES takes extensive measures to raise public awareness on the efficient use of fossil fuels, benefits of renewable energy and also acts as a technically-leading learning platform to offer research opportunities and policy support on the challenges of energy security and climate change.
The curriculum of the post graduate programmes is often updated to meet the national and global needs. Real time energy analysis, practical hands-on laboratory classes and live industrial & research projects are the attractive features of the course. The post graduate course is also buttressed by a wide range of elective papers spread across various recent areas such as CFD, energy forecasting, modelling, turbo machinery, waste heat recovery, energy storage etc. Attempt is made to develop unique models and methodologies for the promotion of sustainable energy technologies and thereby creating future potential energy engineers, pioneering researchers, technocrats, entrepreneurs and policy makers who can manage and create powerful organizations in the present competitive world. Various advanced computer aided tools available in IES enable our students to acquire a suitable skill set to rise up to the opportunities in an aggressive business environment.
IES offers consultancy services towards the industrial requirements such as energy audits, techno-economic feasibility studies, process optimization, demand forecasting, implementation of Renewable Energy (RE) systems for various process and power applications, preparation of detailed project report (DPR) and performance testing of RE Systems / Components.
