Student Exchange programme

Anna University has MoUs with 37 foreign Universities through which a large number of exchange of students and faculty members are facilitated.

Anna University has rich experience in handling international cooperation projects. The University offers Under Graduate, Masters, PhD and M.S (By Research) programmes. In recent years, Anna University has hosted students from European countries such as Italy, France, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Korea, Australia, Netherlands, etc.
The In-coming exchange students are enrolled with the regular students and are treated on par with them in all aspects like Attendance, Conduct of examinations, Internal assessments, Industrial visit, etc. After the successful completion of the semester, the transcripts of the candidates are sent to their home institution. The exchange students are also attached to a senior faculty member of the department for tutoring during the entire period of exchange.
Similarly about 45 students from Anna University have been to European partner institutions under Erasmus Mundus programme to do their semester, full master and doctoral research abroad. The credits earned by the students have been accepted and printed in the grade sheets to get their degree within the stipulated period.
Anna University recognizes the subjects the OUT-GOING exchange students are likely to study in the host University before the students leave the home University. On completion of the semester / duration, the acquired credits are transferred to the home University that facilitates to prepare the mark statement and award degree from the home University. The International office of Anna University supports them with all possible assistance to enable smooth transition.

Anna University has 37 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various universities. The ambition of the University in signing MoUs is as follows:

  • To enable faculty and student exchange
  • Exchange of information for education and research purposes
  • Exchange of research outcomes, academic publications and other academic information
  • To explore mutually beneficial collaborative research projects
  • Exclusive Double Masters/ degree agreements have been signed with Five Ecole Centrals in France, an outcome of Erasmus Mundus Action – I program
  • MoUs with 2 Universities in France have resulted in Double Masters’ Degree and two students from Anna University, Chennai are pursuing their studies there
  • The students who had gone on exchange get more recognition by recruiting companies and are well placed.
  • They are also benefited by using the sophisticated infrastructure facilities in foreign Universities.
  • They learn the culture of different countries and they come back with a lot of confidence boost.
  • Our incoming students from European countries have also benefitted by understanding our Indian culture.

Important instructions to outgoing students:

  • Before leaving the University on exchange, the students are instructed to get clearance from the Centre for Academic Courses, Anna University. This helps in avoiding problems on their return.
  • Students may be advised to comply with the learning agreement as far as possible. Normally, the learning agreement is made based on the recommendations of faculty members of the department to which the exchange student belongs.

Important instructions to incoming students:

  • As per AU regulation, the exchange students have to take the courses offered in a particular semester. Mixing courses between semesters or programmes is not allowed due to clash in time table as the courses are fixed for a particular semester.
  • In this case, the exchange students are advised to confirm their courses before leaving their home University.

Successful experiences

  • Anna University has a global outlook. In recent years, it has hosted more than 30 students from different European Universities who had come for a semester or two for internship.
  • A number of Anna University students also have been going on exchange.
  • Our academic staff have also gone to some of the European Universities and have benefitted by using the sophisticated laboratories. This has resulted in Joint research and publications.
  • We have had excellent feedbacks from the students and faculty who had come on exchange.
