Field of interest


Effective utilization of bioactive compounds from natural sources for development of drugs useful for cancer chemotherapy. As drug resistance is the major impediment in cancer therapy, reversing the drug resistance using traditional and natural compounds to improve effective treatment for cancer.



Research and Training Experience


Internship - thesis: “Analysis of Human metaphase chromosome using GTG banding technique – A case study of Turner syndrome” Under the guidance of Dr. Solomon F.D. Paul, Professor and Head, Dept of Human Genetics, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai-116.

Experienced on handling microscope, maintaining tissue culture, slide preparation for karyotyping, isolation of DNA.

M.Sc thesis: “Phenotypic detection of high-level aminoglycoside resistance (HLAR) in Enterococcus species in a tertiary care centre” Under the guidance of Dr. K.S. Sridharan, Assistant professor, Dept of Microbiology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai-116.

Experienced in
• Handling and Maintenance of microbial cultures
• Training in microscopy
• Detection of microbial drug resistance by disk diffusion and agar dilution methods.

PhD thesis: “Studies on modulation of MDR-1 gene expression by curcuminoids from Curcuma longa L. in Multidrug Resistance KBChR8-5 Human Cervical Cancer Cell Line”. Under the guidance of Dr. S. Elumalai, Head of the department, Department of Biotechnology, University of Madras, Chennai-5.

My research work included handling and maintenance of animal cell culture, with hands-on training on:
• Gradient, and real time-PCR
• Agarose gel electrophoresis
• RNA isolation
• cDNA preparation
• Cell cycle analysis
Analytical techniques:
• Extraction of compounds from plants
• Chromatography techniques including TLC, Column Chromatography, HPLC, GC-MS.
